Twenty international business leaders and diplomats have wrapped up a five-day charity cycling trek across Taiwan, raising NT$266,000 to improve education and daily living conditions for disadvantaged children in the remote Penghu archipelago.
The Australia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan (ANZCham) staged its annual Charity Bike Ride from April 11 to 15. Riders covered roughly 517 kilometres and climbed more than 5,100 metres in elevation, travelling from Taipei through Chiayi before taking a ferry to Penghu. The route offered participants a vivid cross-section of the island's landscapes, from urban streets and mountain passes to coastal plains and offshore islands.
On April 14 the group visited the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF) Baisha service station in Penghu to hand over the donations in person. The money will directly support local children facing economic hardship.
Participants represented a wide cross-section of industries including finance, semiconductors, healthcare and food, and came from Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan and six other countries. The ride, which began in 2018, has grown into one of ANZCham's flagship community initiatives, forging stronger links between the international business community and Taiwanese society.
“This is not just a cycling challenge—it's a journey of connection,” said ANZCham Executive Director Glenn Lio. “By travelling across Taiwan and extending the route to Penghu, we are not only raising funds, but also engaging directly with communities, understanding their needs, and building meaningful relationships. It reflects the strong and enduring ties between Australia, New Zealand and Taiwan.”

ANZ Banking Group served as principal sponsor, with additional backing from APIS4, ATP Electronics, Fonterra, Mentality Fitness, Saho System Technology and Zespri International Ltd.
The event underscores the role of Taiwan's international business networks in addressing needs in the island's more isolated communities, where access to services can be more limited.
