Behind a first-inning grand slam from Moon Bo-gyeong and a power display from its American-born heritage players, South Korea powered past the Czech Republic in World Baseball Classic Group C preliminary action at the Tokyo Dome.
The LG Twins slugger set the tone early, clearing the bases in the opening frame to give South Korea an immediate 4-0 lead and electrifying the Korean supporters in the stands.

The offensive onslaught continued with significant contributions from two specially recruited heritage players, making their tournament impact felt. Shay Whitcomb, an infielder with the Houston Astros, launched home runs in consecutive at-bats. Fellow heritage player Jahmai Jones also homered to help put the game out of reach and secure the decisive victory for a lineup that also featured San Francisco Giants outfielder Lee Jung-hoo.
On the mound, KT Wiz starter So Hyeong-jun provided a stabilizing presence. Over three scoreless innings, he scattered four hits but used precise command to work out of multiple jams. While the South Korean bullpen yielded some runs later in the game, the relievers successfully maintained a seven-run advantage to close out the win.

The Czech Republic, widely considered the underdog of Group C entering the tournament, struggled to contain South Korea's relentless firepower. However, the team managed to break a scoreless streak when Terrin Vavra belted a three-run home run to get the Czechs on the board.
