Google announced that its AI assistant Gemini now officially supports "free SAT practice tests," enabling users to directly launch "full-length and on-demand practice tests" within the conversational interface. Google stated that this feature aims to provide the public with lower-cost practice opportunities outside the expensive overseas study preparation market. Since SAT is a standardized test commonly used for U.S. college applications, it has generated significant attention. Gemini's addition of SAT practice services also represents AI's continued expansion into educational scenarios.

How to Use Gemini's SAT Practice Tests
Google explains that users simply need to input "I want to take an SAT practice test" in Gemini, and the system will launch the practice test process. After completing the test, Gemini provides specific feedback, including areas of strong performance and topics that need improvement. Google stated that Gemini also supports test-takers' requests for answer explanations, allowing users to obtain clarification through questions if they feel uncertain about particular items. Google said: "By helping you identify specific knowledge gaps, Gemini can help you turn these insights into action: create a customized study plan to help you walk into the exam room with more confidence".

What is SAT and Why It Has Generated Discussion
SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a standardized test commonly used for U.S. college admissions, hosted by the College Board. For students hoping to apply to American universities, SAT scores are often considered alongside application forms, recommendation letters, and extracurricular activities. Since SAT preparation often involves systemic costs, such as cram schools or reference books, Google's provision of free practice tests is viewed as a way to lower preparation barriers. It has also reignited discussions about the pros and cons of AI, with some teachers believing AI tools may weaken critical thinking, while others view it as a more equitable entry point for test preparation.
Collaboration with Educational Institutions
Google emphasized that SAT practice questions are created in collaboration with The Princeton Review to ensure test items have "rigorously reviewed content from top educational companies". Additionally, Khan Academy's Writing Coach tool will be powered by Gemini. Google emphasized that Writing Coach is positioned as assistance, not ghostwriting, guiding students through four stages: understanding, structure, drafting, and revision.
Google announced that educators will also be able to more comprehensively access Gemini. Gemini will be integrated into Gmail, Docs, Slides, Forms, Vids, and Sheets for Google Workspace for Education core edition teachers to use without additional fees. Users can generate images, create instructional videos, write teaching materials, or analyze data within these services. This update will gradually roll out to users aged 18 and above in the coming weeks.
