Peggy Chen, the wife of former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je, posted a critique on Facebook of the ongoing investigation into her husband on corruption charges.
"The prosecutor is handling the case based on the fabricated stories by political opponents on TV,"Chen asserted on December 8, showing election loan transaction details to prove Ko's innocence.
Chen explained that the prosecutor accused them of suspicious activities because they managed to repay a home loan for NTD 20 million dollars taken out in 2018 within a year. The prosecutor viewed this as potential corruption, especially since the timing of the loan and repayment coincided with a development projectscandal.
However, Chen claimed that she and Ko took the loan using their house as collateral to finance election personnel expenses in May 2018, with campaign expenses eventually amounting to approximately 11.5 million.
Chen posted a photo of the bank transaction log for the loan as evidence of her claims.
Chen added that while some additional minor expenditures without receipts were incurred, all these were paid with the couple's personal funds. Monthly salaries via bank transfer and submitted monthly reports to the bank.
Chen claimed that the couple received a subsidy of over TWD 17 million upon Ko's electoral win, which was then used to repay the loan. Despitequickly repaying the loan, prosecutors suspected that the amount was incompatible with the couple's reported income, leading to the house search and Ko's year-long detention until being released on bail of NTD 70 million in September 2025.
