On November 26, the Democratic Progressive Party approved two new nominees for the 2026 mayoral elections: DPP legislator Su Chiao-hui for mayor of New Taipei City and Councilor Chen Pin-an for Miaoli County.

Su is a graduate of NTU's law department, with a master's in law from Boston University and the University of Pennsylvania.  She received excellent evaluations from various civic groups 15 times during her three terms as a legislator in Taiwan.

Su not only focuses on education policies but has also advanced the Space Development Act, a special defense budget that lays the foundation for developing a Taiwanese space industry.

Chen Pin-an is a graduate of NTU's Finance Department who also holds a law degree. She began her political engagement as a lawyer in Taipei, where she witnessed a group in Miaoli championing local causes. She joined the Miaoli Anti-Wind Farm movement and even provided legal assistance pro bono, ultimately choosing to stay in Miaoli, a decision underscored by hosting her wedding banquet there.

Chen was elected to the Miaoli council twice with the highest votes, the second time achieving the most votes citywide.

DPP party chairman Lai Ching-te presided over the ceremony and said both women are deeply motivated candidates with an excellent track record in previous elections.

Lai noted that anyone experienced in elections knows a first-term victory is easier, but reelections are harder due to ever-growing public scrutiny of campaign promises.

He endowed Su and Chen with campaign sashes as a gesture of good luck.

Chen and Su's nominations follow the DPP's earlier recommendations for party candidates in Taichung, Chiayi City, Yilan, and Taitung counties.
